Today's Ride

The Stats

55 miles
1,362 ft. climbed

Miles Completed: 2,451
Miles to Go: 945
States Visited: 9 of 15 (though we're less than a mile from the Ohio state border)
Total Climbed: 79,437 ft.

Challenge: Frustration of such a short day (after a relatively short day yesterday) and having so much extra time and energy to spare when there are so many miles ahead of us the next few days!

The Ride

Another perfect temp day, and mostly sunshine, despite a bit of haze potentially from the Canadian fires, but which fortunately didn't really affect us. Heading out back through the town of Greenville, we basically rode route 40 all day, surrounded by what I started to think of as more "suburban" farms.

Fortunately, there was relatively light traffic and mostly really smooth pavement, but for a few stretches of construction. While there were no twists and turns, we passed through some very cute (and of course patriotic!) towns, including Knightstown, Dublin, Centerville, and Cambridge City. I enjoyed a stop at a local farmers market in Knightstown, and got some blueberry zucchini bread to share at the next SAG from the Snoop Sisters.

Even the mannequins are patriotic!

More great murals!

Hard to see it, but this is the Massey Harris Carriage Shop -- perhaps more long-lost relatives?
Dillon Hicks looks forward to seeing the Crossroads riders every year --
he was on the way to the beach (and yes, apparently there are beaches in Indiana)!

Richmond, Indiana

Richmond is apparently known for its Rose Gardens.

We reached Richmond by midday given the short mileage. Richmond also has developed a bit of a downtown "depot district," complete with those murals I've been enjoying through so many towns, and some decent dining options. (It seems they've done so at the expense of the actual "downtown," which was a ghost town of shuttered businesses.) Peter and I enjoyed lunch at Little Sheba's (and of course a couple beers), topped off by ice cream at Ullerys before heading into Taco Bell hell where our "under renovation" hotel is located. Dinner was at Cracker Barrel. Res ipso loquitur.

Beer No. ??????

I guess this is why it's named the Depot area?

Overall, another relaxing day, though a bit frustrating that this was the chosen route given that we've got nearly 400 miles to ride in the next four days before our final rest day in Erie! Yikes! Off to hydrate (with water!) and then to bed.
